News of next year’s race calendar is starting to come through, so it’s time to start training if you fancy filling the trophy cabinet in 2011. West Drayton MBC will be having their season kick off with the Black Park XC in March and, if you’re a single gear sort of person, there’s money to be won. Read on for more…
“West Drayton Mountain Bike Club (WDMBC), one of the UK’s biggest mountain bike clubs, will once again be organizing its annual Black Park XC race on Sunday 13 March 2011. For 2011, it will also be incorporating the London Single Speed championship with a £150 cash prize up for grabs for the fastest rider with one gear, courtesy of the Bucks Offroad Sportive
The Specialized Concept Store in Ruislip has also stepped in as lead sponsor and will be providing prizes for those quick and skillful enough to make the podium. Boosting the bumper prize haul is WDMBC club sponsor (and Specialized stockist) Beyond Mountain Bikes, The Feed Station and Dirt Divas.
Chris Denman, former Southern XC champ and WDMBC chairman said, “The Black Park race is a great season opener and will give the racers an early indication of how their winter training has gone. The circuit will be the usual mix of tight twisty singletrack and short stretches of fire road which require not only good bike handling skills but strength and stamina. We’ve also worked hard to get some good sponsors on board and those making the podiums will be taking home some decent prizes.”
Event sponsor, Paul Miller of The Specialized Concept Store in Ruislip commented, “The Black Park event is local grass roots racing at its best. Whether you are a complete beginner, a weekend warrior or a hardened racer, this event has something for you. This is exactly the sort of event that we like to sponsor and we are excited about being involved in 2011.”
In an effort to provide categories for all abilities and ages there will be U10s, U12s, U14s and U16 youth races held in addition to Beginner, Fun, Open, Vet and Grand Vet categories. There will also be a Singlespeed-only category to decide the official London Singlespeed Champion.

Ahh annoying that the Black Park race is the same weekend as the British Student (BUCS) champs, I love Black Park and it would be awesome to race there one day!
wise: It was my first race a couple of years ago and I throughly enjoyed despite being rubbish, so see you there.
