Remember Summer 2009? It didn’t happen in July but in May for SPAM’s Set2Rise 12 hour Enduro.
The forum was full of praise for the fun course with its high content of singletrack.

Based on the success of the last 2 years, this growing event sponsored by CHARGE BIKES (and supported by Mule Bar too) predicts to meet its limit of 500 riders in 2010. The event takes place on 29-30 May 2010 at Erlestoke Woods, details and entry at

The overnight 12 hour enduro is open to solo riders and singlespeeders, teams (of up to 4 riders) and pairs. The course (consisting of 7 mile laps) offers fantastic mountain biking including fast tracks, grassy inclines and descents and boasts almost 50% fun, technical wooded singletrack leaving riders grinning from ear to ear! Due to the singletrack content, entry is limited to 500 riders to avoid bottlenecks, so the organisers suggest you enter early.

Chipps wasn’t around for the dawn of mountain biking in the UK, but he likes to claim that he arrived in time for second breakfast (about the time he shows up for work, then…) starting in the bike trade in 1990 and becoming a full time mountain bike journalist at the start of 1994. Over the subsequent quarter century, he has seen mountain bike culture flourish and diversify and bike technology go from rigid steel frames to fully suspended carbon fibre (and sometimes back to rigid steel as well.)

His riding style is best described as ‘medium, wheels on the ground, trail riding’ though he’s been spotted doing everything from endurance downhill racing to 24 hour cross country racing. He favours mid-travel trail bikes and claims to be wheel-size, gear, brake and tyre agnostic. In fact, his garage spans most bicycle flavours, taking in steel hardtails, carbon trail bikes, even a mountain bike tandem, along with road, touring and gravel/cyclocross bikes.

While he’s happy to chat about bikes all day, his real interest is in the people and places that bikes can introduce you to and he talks as fondly about the trails he’s ridden and riders he’s met as the bikes that took him there.

    me too – awesome event.
i was that fit last year and suffered but this year… oh wait…

    damn it!

Brilliant course with more good singletrack than the more prestigous events. No need to travel to Wales/oop north or wherever, either. Charge bikes and other sponsors put up some top prizes, too. Must try and win some this year.

Great event last year; looking forward to this years. SPAM members will be focusing their mind-energy through pilates based regimes and rhythmic chanting to ensure the sun-gods are good to us again!

It seemed more Charge bikes were given out as prizes than actually ridden on the course!

More sun, singletrack, prizes and good vibes this year, please.
