Singletrack Classic Weekender – Info For Racers, Campers, Spectators & Marshalls

Lee Quarry can be hard to find for some. Google (or key in to your SatNav) the following:- Kingfisher Centre Futures Park, Bacup, OL13 0BB (click for maplink).

The quarry will be AA signposted from all motorways and main roads.

It is free to park. There will be two secure car parks in operation. One for people staying for the duration of the weekend, the other for people who aren’t (spectators, non-campers, marshalls etc).

It is free to spectate.

It is free to camp. Bring a hammer to whack your tent pegs in with! And some spare pegs might be a good idea 😉

There is catering.

There are toilets.

It will be sunny.

On Sunday there is a round of the National Trials Championship happening at Lee Quarry too (10am – 3pm).

We’re still on the lookout for marshals for the event (the more the merrier). If you’d like to volunteer, please email Mark at his singletrackworld.com address (or preferably call the ST Office on 01706 813344) and let us know when you’re free.

Marshals are particularly needed on Saturday 10am-5pm and for the XC on Sunday (around 11am-3pm depending on the size of the race, more below). We’ll need you at a marshal briefing at 9.30am on Saturday and 10am on Sunday. You’ll get to borrow a snazzy yellow vest and we’ll keep you well-fed.

  1. Has there been any prizes mentioned for the actual racing yet?

If theres prizes for sitting around on your ass all day in the sunshine and not for riding me bike I might change me mind!

  2. Mark’s away in Morzine at the moment. You will get a reply in due course. Cheers for volunteering see you up there 🙂

  3. I’m concerned about the fact that there’s three hours between the start of the XC race and the prize giving. That sounds like a loooooong XC race 😉

  4. XC is only 4 laps. Some fit folk migh do it in approx 1hr, some will take twice that. Prize giving at 2pm gives folk time to recover and us a chance to work out results (1st, 2nd, 3rd, under-18s, over-40s etc) 🙂

  5. Im down for racing, but im injured now, i text chipps to offer my services at marshalling, but can i be on the corner at the slab ride on the DH part of the red route, my “props” will work well there………

  6. Foolish – yep, after a couple of trial runs, a fair bit of “logistical working out”, feedback from our timing guys, number of competitors etc the XC race will 4 laps.

Trev – I think marshals will rotate positions a bit (to avoid boredom!) but just let us know during marshal briefing on Saturday AM that you wanna be on that spot at some point 🙂

  7. Will we be able to get into the campsite quite late 10.30 ish on Friday?
We have a longish drive and can’t get away from work early.

  8. Sid we won’t be allowing cars on to the campsite as it is a rocky old quarry with big drops etc and it breaks cars. But give me a call on my mobile when you arrive and I will pop down in a van to give you a lift up the hill with your gear.

Same goes for anyone else turning up Friday night.

  9. Catering is being provided by Steely not used them before but the owner is a keen mountain biker and says he knows what we will be after. They will be on site from Friday pm onwards.

DBW Should be able to offer a lift but it will depend on how busy I am at the time give me a call on my mobile and I’ll help if I’m able. Don’t do deliveries though.

  10. Take it Steelys will be doing brekkie too? Saves me bringing the stove!

Cheers Tony – I might try and catch up with you Saturday sometime, otherwise she can walk up. Its not too far from the road!
