I need a set of those for an old mech off a Trek 8700 (or was it 8500?). CRC said earlier today 74 Euro for a set. Now, the recession is one thing but I'm not going to pull NI out of it on me own 😉
Where would you go for them? Need new but not necessarily Shimano if there're alternatives.
    For this mech:

    950? T'was a great mech.

Loads of after market ones out there for £40+

(I would just use XT is you can get them cheap)

If a shop has them in stock before the price rise they should in theory sell them to you for the rrp.

    Pedalon are good for that.

Thanks, will entertain either option (not my mech so the owner has a bit of a say on this).

TACX : They do Shimano ones for about £17 and they're great. Why waste your money on anything more than that, they get worn out anyway.

Btw, I sell these at least a couple of times a week and my customers love them.

    Keep it real.

You get what you pay for, ceramic bearings on the tension pulley and a ceramic bushing on the guide pulley that will never rust.

With XTR? You get ripped off is what you get. They're pornographically overpriced. Completely taking the piss.

'Never rust'- they'll wear out long before rust is ever a problem. Just pop 'em out periodically and give 'em a clean and they'll be as good as gold.

+1. My X5 jockey wheels still perform like new, the only issue is the teeth are starting to go. No evidence of rust or crud damage. DH bike is in the same position, and that sees far more crud than the X5. It's also a very entry-level road mech, so the jockey wheels are super-cheap. No issues at all, just needs cleaning every now and again same as all mechs.

The only reason you'd notice the difference is if you're racing WC level XC/DH, and even then it would only be minor.

I've said it before and I'll say it again – BBB ceramic.

My BBB distributor (here in Ireland) is so poor they don't stock anything non-road 🙁

I agree with the you get what you pay for about 2/3rds of the time. But even £20 seems a LOT for jockey wheels. I can understand Bradley Wiggins having ceramic bearings on his TT bike but I suspect that 99% of us on here are nowhere near his league. Maybe if the jockey body was actually made from SiC ceramic as well as having ceramic bearings then maybe big money would be worth it. But when the plastic body wears so fast why worry about the longevity of the bearings? As for friction – is the rest of your drive train and wheel set bearings running ceramic too?

    Another vote for Deore here.
As has been said, the teeth will wear long before the bushes and whats the point of having nice shiny/ceramic bearings if the ruddy things got no teeth on it to shift with anyway!?

Tacx for me…sealed bearing and 14 quid..not bad and have improved my shifting as it goes, job done.

KCNC. They are £26.49 but they are hard wearing, smooth, very light and quite flashy. 2 years on my bike so far and they are still in great shape.

Just got a set of BBB ceramics for £10 delivered BNIB. Can't argue with it, can I?
