Well done toast is for marmalade. Lightly done for just butter.

Was talking to one of the ‘higher ups’ in Portsmouth City Council’s food hygiene dept (at a BBQ ironically given the subject matter).
He’d been investigating the potentially carcinogenic effects of the benzopyrene that is present in burnt/chargrilled food.
His point at the time was that people worry about catching things from undercooked burgers, steak etc but there are potentially greater health risks from eating well done/charred meat.
He did say that one of the highest concentrations of benzopyrene in food was in burnt toast…..

If you put toast, olive spread and Marmite back into the toaster for a minute or two, you get Twiglet flavour.

That toast isn’t burnt. Well done but not burnt.

So if I have one piece of burnt toast every few months I’m going to get cancer because of it?

I think you need to look at the facts a bit harder.

Gary_m, not really, a lot of burnt food has more in common with some plastics…not something I’d willingly eat! Anyway, who wants to eat something that tastes burnt?

erm people who like the taste of burnt stuff. Your post suggested that a piece of burnt toast is bad for you, this isn’t the case.

Give it three months and you won’t have this problem any more.
