I was looking at an Endura Stealth or Gore Alp X SO, but £160 is a lot just for riding. So, what softshell can I buy that will work both on and off the bike?

I've been using a Pearl Izumi softshell which is also water resistant. I think they have bumped up the price this year but there are extra pockets and stuff now I think. I find it just the ticket for winter riding.

I wouldnt wear my cycling jacket when not cycling though. Buy two.

I just bought an Endura Windchill at £75 only worn it once and like it a lot. I looked at the Stealth which was very nice and better quality but I couldn't justify £160. The Windchill is a semi softshell, breathable, waterproof (resistant ?) - its a similar fit to the Stealth (ie quite fitted, it has rubberised waist to prevent it riding up and rear pockets)

I have one of these
I only use the outer shell with a base layer for riding .
The inner jacket is good on its own or if its really cold the two together (not for riding though, the inner jacket is not too breathable). But basically you get three jackets for £160.
You can also zip a berghaus fleece into it instead of the inner jacket it comes with. Extra warmth and more breathable. I think they are about £40

I bought one of these from Millets (£50) but it seems they have sold out. Very nice softshell and superb on the bike so far, less than half the price of the usual bike specific products.......

Ground Effect (Baked Alaska ?). With just a base layer under it you WILL NOT ever be cold.
Looks good off the bike too

I bought this for general trail duties from go outdoors reduced from £50 to £25 so I'll not worry too much if it gets damaged..
