  • Wine tasting course/lessons in Edinburgh?

    Hi all,

    Would like to get the girlfriend (and me) a wine tasting course/lesson for Christmas. Not a subject I know much about at all, hence also wanting to go on the course, and why I’m asking for advice here!

    I see that there are a few places that do this sort of thing in Edinburgh, but no clue how they compare.

    This place looks alright;

    Could either do the Introductory class, or get a couple of region specific taster classes..

    Any thoughts? Anyone done a similar course? Recommendations or places to avoid?

    Budget is somewhere between £40 and £60 I guess.. More than one session would be good too.

    Thanks,
    Duane.

    Maybe a bit over budget, but I got one of these as a gift and went over about 4 weeks. It was interesting and good fun. They were held in the Whisky Society on Queen St.

    wow! can’t believe Rose is still on the go… used to work with her 12-14 years ago. Her students generally seemed quite pleased.

    Try sourcing something from here http://www.wsetglobal.com/where_to_study/default.asp?rid=&qualification=-1&freeSearch=edinburgh&go2.x=13&go2.y=14

    This is an industry recognised award if you pass you get a wee badge and can show it off to the sommelier at your local posh nosh place. They should have one too if they are any good. I got one years ago and of course have no idea where it is now…

    Thanks, I see you can do individual classes rather than all three, so the red and white wine courses might be an option!

    V&C evenings were great! but it depends on which wine supplier is visiting — I’m meaning just the tasting anyway. They weren’t cheap, but fun, oh yes. Barbaresco always a winner.

    Cheers all. Anyone done the home-visit type ones? Like this;

    Well priced, and would be fun to let her do it with a bunch of her mates. Imagine it wouldn’t be as educational as a more formal course, but should still be decent.

    Anyone have any experience with home-visit wine tasting?

    To student digs?! 😀

    Although I’m gonna guess that your digs are a little nicer than most…

    WSET if she wants an actual industry recognised qualification at the end of it. Otherwise, there might be a night class available (wrong time of year I expect, for education/council run ones). Search the internet for a local Wine Society. If there are any local boutique wine shops/merchants, quiz them.

    Ha Mark, it’d be to the GFs flat I guess, which is quite nice for a student flat. I live in a pretty average student flat!
