    The Reporter in Newcastle said it was cold and wouldnt lift for some time yet with more wintry showers to come !

    The reporter Chick in the studio retorted with

    There has been panic buying here in the south-east as apparently it’s going to be “a bit cold”. Nearly as bad as the November ’89 when we had a terrible episode of “rained a bit”.

    Baton down the hatches…we’re all doomed.

    I’ve just been out and bought three tins of soup*. Best be prepared for the long haul.

    * I’ve only two left, eaten the oxtail one.

    I nearly lost some fingers through frost bite commuting to work this morning – well not really but they were a bit cold 😉

    It’s sunny in Devon. Should I be concerned with a possible drought?

    Technically no, snow might affect the wedding, but probably not effect it
    </pedant>

    But yep, it is hilarious. Even funnier given this is the first year in a while that I haven’t had to put up with it. Instead I keep being told that ‘oh, you’ve not had a winter here? Well, it’ll be minus 20 soon, so get your winter gear!’

    there was a picture in metro the other day with the headline ‘motorists stranded due to snow’
    you could clearly see the white lines on the road through the snow FFS!
    its just headlines designed to sell papers.

    The last time I panic-bought was back when they had the first petrol strikes in 2001. If I remember correctly, I bought a big 5kg tin of Smash and four tins of beans.

    Ah, the heady day of thinking it would last me weeks!

    Well, if no one minds, I’ll leave the office and get home to stock up on shotgun shells and pot noodles. Just in case.
