Will I miss my 575 if.......

I traded it for a Cotic Soul?
Rode my 1990 fully rigid Orange clockwork and loved it! Very engaging to ride and kind of brought home how lazy my riding has become.

I ride a 2008 575 most of the time, round the chilterns,Swinley, Aston hill for DH sh1ts and giggles and a few trips to scotland and Wales through out the year, this is where the 575 comes into it's.

However after enjoying the Orange so much I was thinking maybe I'd enjoy a hardtail for a while?

So STW do you think I'd miss my Yeti if I chopped in for say a BfE or a Soul?

Anyone else converted from full sus to hardtail?

Chopped my Flux in last year for a Ti456, not missing the rear boing whatsoever, ride a rigid SS too!!!

I had a few bikes, HT and full suss but had to sell all but 1 due to finances. The bike I kept was a HT as I think if you can only have 1 bike a HT is the better option over a full suss for where I Live (somerset). But to be honest I think you need both (or should I say it would be nice to have both!) as I miss having the rear travel for a good flatout downhill blast. Why don't you get a cheap hardtail or treat the orange to a suspension fork (if the geo/headtube etc allows it)

Me, 456Ti too, but buy the HT (get a 456 they are less than £200) before selling the FS frame.

You'll probably miss it for bumpy places.

all depends what your riding I would say .. do you need a full sus ? if so then 575 is a top bike.

I've had both a hard tail (Pisgah) and a 575 for the last 2 years and have honestly only ridden the 575 a handful of times over the last 12 months whilst the Pisgah gets ridden weekly all year - the 575 is a great bike for trail centres and the alps but for all other duties I think that they are too slow for what I do (Rossendale/Calderdale). Sadly it's now for sale, a Yeti AS-R maybe a better compromise for the round here...

There's only one person who can really answer that question, but here is a thought. If you sold the 575 you would probably end up with enough money for a cotic soul plus the other bits youd need like a seat post and perhaps paying an LBS to remove and fit the headset, plus some change, but maybe not much change (£470 for the soul + £30 for post and £20 for HS remove and refit. 575 on eBay, maybe £700? You're looking at less than £200 in your pocket).
Rather than selling, how about simply mothballing the 575 for a few months and see how you go? That way you still have the option of holding it and maybe running it in the summer and running the HT in the winter.

I did exactly this. I was riding my Wanga much more than my 575, so it went and I am back HT full time with a SS/Rigid 29'er and a front bounce Cove.
Don't miss the bounce at all.

Opposite view here...

I've managed to convince myself on a number of occasions that my one true steed was a hardtail, but every time i've got back on my FS (also a 575) ive remeberd just how much more fun it was and how i could take more stuff on (36 fox up front) than on all my various hardtails (inbred, 456 and now a Simple).

The 575 is now my favourite and i'm not making the hardtail only mistake again (promise!!)

The best option though is to have both if you can.

More and more of my friends are now moving away from FS and back to LT HT.

Seems to make sense in the UK. Doesn't seem to have slowed my riding down any

I've gone form a 160/150mm travel FS to a 130/130(adjustable down to 90mm) full suss and a 120mm travel HT.

The only thing is I find myself not riding the HT anymore as the FS is lighter, faster and more fun for the majority of things I ride.

The FS is a Nicolai Helius and the HT is a Handjob BTW

it's the same old story....man saves up for flashy full suss, rides it for a while then builds up his old hard tail for a hack and hey presto...the full suss gets binned. Did the same last year and now have a perfectly good Trek EX9 hanging up while the ss hard tail get ridden everywhere.

It's gonna have to be I reckon I think I'd miss the 575 too much, best I get selling the contents of my garage to fund a new build....

I've got a 575 and hardly use it but I don't think I would like to not have it sat there waiting for the weekends away in the lakes, peaks, spain etc.

I am waiting for a new cotic soul to arrive so I get the whole 'hardtail thing' but can we all at least acknowledge that all of us will be faster on 95% of terrain riding a full suss?

I ride both but currently feel that a 29er hard tail is all I need. I ride a chameleon when I want to thrash around the woods for an hour or two but only really use the yeti on big rides or weekenders where I may get bored with being bashed about or some times just ride it for a change. It's horses for courses and a long term on going question of which is faster.

Probably, not certain that I'd be "that" much faster, or that I care enough, or that it matters

What on earth are you thinking? Would you like me to come and slap you around the face with a wet fish?

I got my full suss nicked last summer so had to ride my hardtail for 6 months as i couldn't afford to replace it

Now I have, I'd rather remove my own nackers with a pair of house bricks than get rid of my Intense for a hardtail. And its nowt to do with being 'fast'. I'm never that. Its just that i don't like coming home from an all dayer feeling like I've been had by Mr Big in the showers

How many race? And as we're talking about Souls, Chameleons, and 575 none of those are race bikes either.

TBH, they are people who're slower than me and those that are faster than me, and the bike they ride has little to do with it IME

I've got a 575 and aP7. If had to ditch one,it would be the Orange. I can ride the Yeti all day and still be in good enough shape to ride the next day.
I am an old knacker with very little ability,tho.

I've got a 575 and a Handjob. If one had to go it would be the Handjob.
There aren't many things that have made me as happy as when riding my 575.
It'll only go for another 575 or something similar.

Maybe that you've considered getting rid means you'd be ok to do so..?

Ride HT & FS if you have the ££ and storage space. I have a Five and Soul. Both are ace depending on my mood and the terrain. Also means if one's knacked, you can still go out and ride (or take bits off one to keep the other one running). I reckon my riding's better cos I ride both regularly - HT keeps you involved in the trail, looking for best lines, FS gets you used to just ragging through stuff and holding on. Often I only want to ride the Soul. But then when I ride the Five again I know why I've kept it for 4 years

Funny you should say that broess, I am reluctant to sell the 575 but I would replace it with a AS-R if possible, failing that I would just go out on my cx bike to really keep me ragging through stuff and holding on...
