Looking at new wheelsets, saw some white rimmed versions, are they a do or a don’t?

Depends on the bike. White spokes are, apparently, a no no though.

Here’s my white wheeled bike. Works for me.

The only thing worse than a bike that’s got white rims is a bike with white rims photographed hanging from something by a trail.

    Or an all-white bike.

it’s not just about white rims, you have to think about the overall aesthetic.

Are we still talking about bikes?

Blimey , didn’t realise my question would spark this amount of passion 😉

My 2 penneth….i like the look of them, as they look fresh and sharp. Seem popular with the Euro bikes. I like the idea of them but in practice not so sure, i guess i’m 50/50. Are they a case of you need the skills to wear these, or be an overt show off?

Or as some posters insist….be a big old Gaylord!! 😆

White is also 7% faster, fact.

Photons have less friction whilst travelling over white substrate. So over a 5km downhill run, on a sunny day (more photons when it’s not cloudy of course), with the white on front facing and rotating components, it’s obvious that Vmax=(Px(rV+fV)/W, where P=number of photons on a sunny day, rV = rotating velocity, fV = forward velocity (in Meters per second) and W = % white on bike.

    That pompino would be awesome!

What happens if you have a black front rim and a white rear rim?

Does the rear wheel keep overtaking the front?

    big_scot_nanny

over a long enough run, yes. dangerous stuff this, hence the seriousness of the decision.

Maybe it’d be best to have a white rim on the front and a black one on the rear then.
That way the front would tow the rear helping to keep the bike more stable.

I’ve yet to see a bike with white rims that I like the look of.

I’m not that fussed to be honest, but it does depend on the rest of the bike too. My 456:

You know blokes who go around beating up gays because underneath they too have feelings for other men?

    I think that’s what we’re seeing here.

What is it with c456s and white rims?

Well I got a white rim cos they were £20 less than black ones 🙂

They are a few grammes heavier tho – you can’t anodise white apparently and that paints really heavy.

If you’re mixing rims, you definately need the faster, white rim on the front for added stability. Here’s my Inbred:

I wanted white wheels but trashed my old back wheel when Merlin were out of stock. Keep meaning to have it sprayed but never get round to it.
