    Good evening.

Can anyone suggest a good bottle of whisky that I can donate to my brother's stag weekend (which I cannot attend due to childbirth). I have no idea what type he would normally drink, but being an Army 'chap' type (him not me) I suspect Coop's own won't quite cut the mustard. Up to about £40 I guess.

    Obliged.

all good suggestions so far.. the Monkey Shoulder is a blend tho..

The Laphroaig Quarter Cask is VERY special!

Highland Park, Bruichladdich, and Lagavulin are up there with the Laphroaig. There aren't really any bad ones!!

If you're worried about buying something too peaty or pungent then 15 or 18 year old bottlings from the big names like Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich and Glenlivet are well worth the money, with the added bonus that they're "easy" drinkers so they wont offend the palate. Plus there's usually one of them on offer in Booths or Sainsburys..

Edradour (Scotland's "smallest" distillery) is worth looking for but you may have to find a specialist like oddbins to get it.

Laphroaig Quarter Cask really is an acquired taste.

For £40, I'd personally look at a Talisker or Dalwhinnie Distiller's edition.

+1 for Caol Ila, in fact I like it so much I'm off to pour myself a large one. Can report back on how lovely it is in around 1/2 an hour if required!

I've just finished a bottle of Royal Lochnagar 12yr old which was very nice, think I got it from Waitrose, The Glenmorangie wood finishes are excellent as well.
