Got a over size Thomson stem I want to put on my sc superlight because it's nice and shiny. GOing to pair it with some Easton handlebars but which rise do I need. My current bars are Race face Deus XC quite like the shape could possible go for a bit more rise and width. Are high rise ones going to be stupid?
Should i not bother?

Do you not think it might be better to try a few bars for size and see what you like the feel of?
It's down to your personal preference, frame size and body shape. No one can advise.
I've always bought Easton Lo-rise, seem to be the perfect shape for me, but SSS's advice seems to be sensible

I can go into a shop and sort of hold them in mid air, but I can't fit them to my bike and go round the block can I?
I don't know how people make these sorts of decisions. I guess they just take a chance or go on recommendations...

Yes ok, point taken, but what I'm saying is that its impossible to sort of compare and contrast them all, so you end up taking a punt.... This is especially true with tinternet shopping. Can be an expensive trial and error process.
Thanks for your input, I'll spend some time trying some other peeps bikes etc and not just rush in with my itchy internet shopping finger.

Maybe ask them if you can run round the block with them while making MXer type noises? 
Just sit on as many bikes as you can and you'll soon get a feel for what you think suits you.
