I want to have a go at building up a wheel so starting with a hack rear wheel for winter riding : Shimano Deore 32 hole hub and old Mavic 717 rim. have got the wheelbuilding guides and built a wee jig, but what spoke lengths do I need to buy for this combo?? Any advice appreciated.

I've been looking into this myself recently, you'll need a couple of different lengths. The best way to find out is to on one of the spoke calculator sites. I got ALL the information i needed from sheldon brown's site... Bery comprehensive.

There is also a description on how to measure everything but buying the full book (PDF) helps greatly IMO.
