There seems to be no difference between the front and rear specialized own brand ones on the road bike but have an Ultegra, which i believe is rear that i was going to bung on the front. Can i do this or not and how do i determine if its a F or R in the bits box?

The fixing bolt for a front is longer.

And you may also want to swap the pads around if they’re cartridge type.

Front and Rear have the cable pull on opposite sides for slightly improved cable routing, although if your right lever pulls the front brake (UK setup) then you probably want a pair of rears.
