As we married in Inverness we had to have a ceilidh (it would appear to be law)! So our first dance was a waltz. Had a few lessons before just to make sure I wasn’t too embarassing! When the band had a break the first song was Elbow’s One day like this.
At least we didn’t have to worry about auditioning the band, just went on referals and you tube vids of them at festivals.

George Benson – Nothing’s Gonna Change My Love For You.

We had lessons as well and surprised everyone. The risk with a slow song is pointless shuffling with a token spin here and there.

We had Queen’s “You’re My Best Friend”.

I did want to do a full dance routine to Richard Cheese’s version of Slayer’s War Ensemble, but we didn’t have time and coordination would have been a bit tricky in my dress.

We had a Northumbrian band and caller. No disco, no hideously embarrassing first dance.

Exactly what we wanted. I’d have refused to get married if Mrs NickF had wanted a massive occasion and a choreographed first dance, but luckily she feels the same way. The fact that she does is probably why I married her.

Your the one by Robbie Williams, cheesy I know but we saw him in New Zealand after we had had a rocky patch for a while before hand, summed up a fantastic year out there.

You have to find one that means something to both of you.

One of my friends bizarely left it up to the DJ to choose – maybe they couldn’t decide. Either in ignorance (possible we are talking an 80’s wedding DJ) or malevolence he chose “Band of Gold” – well…it’s about a wedding ring innit?

Oh how we laughed (sort of).

Me and Mrs V8 used this:

A mate of mine did it brilliantly last year by starting with the Conga! It went through the bar, the kitchens, the car park, someone’s room, etc ….

We got married 4 weeks ago, first dance was to Elbow – One day like this but then the DJ put Adele – Someone like you on. Sort of brought the atmos down! Had a cailidh band who took over then until later.

The DJ was a bit of dick, someone asked him for take that later so he put about 6 songs on in a row then did the same with lady gaga, don’t use Dereks Disco from Bury!

Enjoy the day, it flies past in a bit of a blur!

Got married 3 weeks ago. I hate dancing at the best of times, and the thought of doing it with everyone I know watching appealed even less, so we ditched the idea and just let everyone get on with it.

Having spoken to other people who’ve spent the whole of their wedding meal worrying about the first dance, I’m now determined that this was the right answer.

As it turns out, the band insisted on us doing an impromptu last dance, but everything was rathre more relaxed by that stage.

By the same logic, do your speeches early, then you can get on with enjoying yourself 😀

Good plan pdw, I may copy. Neither of us wants to do it and the only reason I get given for keeping it in is because ‘people expect it’. I can’t find any songs I like although we did think about Queen’s ‘Fat Bottomed Girl’ for a day or two 😀

We didn’t do ours ‘first’ either, it was about halfway through the night. Decided it was about time to get it over with while we could still dance 🙂

If you think the grannies can handle it I would love someone to use “F### Her Gently” by Tenacious D 😆

Er, why? You just put your arms round each other, sway a bit and gaze longingly… what’s to worry about?
