  • What tyres for a London commute?

I’m looking for something with stong sidewalls that can withstand being dragged along the ground after I’ve been knocked down, but is fast rolling so that I can catch people swinging cats.

It also needs to be hard wearing so that I can enjoy the limitless cultural offerings only London has to offer.

I’m alergic to rubber and I cry at the John Lewis advert. Is there anything suitable?

Your tyres last a year commuting in London!!! Wow, I’m impressed. I used to get about 2 – 3 month out of a rear (note NOT a heavy skidder by any amount) and 8 – 9 months out of a front. Front worn pretty flat before changing, never changed the rear until the tyre wore through to the second layer of kevlar.

Are you a heavy bloke, Brick?

I get years out of all my tyres, regardless of what type of riding. But then I’m only 9.5 stone. I know that bigger people tend to get less milage from their tyres.

The Armadillos last ages cos they’re a harder rubber compound. The standard Nimbuses are a better compound for grip, noticeable in wet weather, but don’t have the puncture resistance of the Armadillo versions.

Strange that you get through tyres so quickly then. 😕
