  • What to do with an old PC?

Have an old PC (about 5 years old) and I can’t decide if I should try and repair it (wifi crashes out and wont reconnect without crashing the machine).

Should I nuke the hard drive and donate it somewhere.

Gut it and smash the hard drive with a big hammer.

    Use it to try Ubuntu?

There’s only two of us in the house and we have two macs so we perhaps don’t really need it. The only thing the PC will do that the macs wont is run the software for the Eon energy monitor.

So, your advice would be appreciated.

    Nuke the hard drive.
Install a friendly Linux distro, try mint.
Stick on freegle and someone will definately want it.

I’ve done this with several pc’s and laptops, helped out some really nice folk.

*by nuking the hard drive I mean wiping it not smashing it with a hammer.

Make sure you’ve nothing left you want off the hard drive, re-install an OS and stick in the garage/shed, preferably connected to a set of speakers or Aux in of an old stereo. Makes a great Juke box for on Demand TV, Radio, Music off your main machine etc.etc.

Turbo training is almost bareable in my garage nowadays.
