  • What are people fishing for on the Rance Barrage, Brittany?

On a recent trip to Brittany we drove over the Rance Barrage a few times and every time we did there were people fishing through the small grills on either side of the road (as well as others fishing over the side which makes sense), a Google search has been fruitless (or incompetent!), but does anyone on here know what people were fishing for through the grills? Thanks.

I’ve had a look on Google maps and typically there’s no one fishing in the streetview pics, however these are the grills that were being fished through:

and yes they were definitely fishing through the grill (the grills look to slide, but they weren’t open).

first you hook the fish, then you worry about how to land it.

the harbour arms on Brighton Marina were left hollow specifically to allow crab ‘farming’ to take place in them. Whether it did or not I don’t know.

I wonder if the same goes on there?

Possibly fishing through the grill for small bait fish to use for catfish in the river.
