Ripping out some old flooring, was horrified to discover copies of the Daily Mail from 1961 stuck to the floor…mind you couldn’t help reading the stories about how many potatoes Britons eat, Penny the debutante and the Queen’s peep toe shoes, urgh the thought of the DM in our house all that time

Not this house unfortunately. Although maybe I should check some of the loose floorboards.

We found an anti tank shell in our coal shed.
I took it to school and they freaked out and confiscated it.
We’d been chucking it around in the field at play time.

This was on our under stairs cupboard. Tucked away in a recess in a stud wall.

Found a loose floor board in one house when I took the old carpet up… under it was a large purse… empty 🙁

Not my place but checking over my brother’s flat we found a hideyhole under a floorboard which had a crossbow in it. Not a little toy one, a proper enormous mad bastard of a thing for killing knights with

Driving licences, marriage certificate and birth certificates.
Plus lots of police and inland revenue letters…
I bagged em all up and took them to police station, who were fascinated..

(edit – for previous couple in the house, who had moved to Spain, quickly..,)

Nothing in this house, we’re the only people to live in this oh so modern efficent shoebox.

BUT, it is build on the site of a former nuclear munitions factory so they did leave behind 2 meters of reinforced concrete a mere foot or so below the lawn – what we lose in drainage we gain in tumours I guess.

    Can’t wait to move.

Grease mainly. Layers of it everywhere, which neither me or my OH noticed on our three viewing visits. Oh and nicotine residue too.

Some years ago a work colleague at a previous job found a human skeleton under the floor boards. Well her husband did when he was crawling around in the crawl space. Turned out it was a previous occupant and had been there around 70 years.

A horse shoe under the stair which now resides on the mantle.

And annoyingly a silver religious pendant that was in the back room on the windowsill but went missing whilst the place was being rewired.

9 ft high cactus don’t think they could find anyway to move it. (still lives in the conservatory where they left it)

My grandparent’s place in South Devon had been used as an Officers Mess during the D-Day practice sessions at Slapton and the general area. The beach had some amazing old concrete structures on it, but in the boathouse was all sorts of graffiti in chalk on the wooden walls. Wish I could remember what all of it said now! There was a game of noughts and crosses on there that I can remember, unfinished. Always wondered why.

Sex dice. You know the sort of thing – one says “tickle / lick / pleasure / strangulate / fist” and the other says to which part of the body said technique was to be applied “nipple / pussy / cock / earhole” etc.

    They looked well used.

In the loft of the current Pinkster Towers we found a shotgun licence (expired) and bizarrely a framed photo of a pub in Nantwich ( the Union Vaults, if you know it). Not an old monochrome romantic type of photo, just a modern colour 10x12ish snap of it.

My parents knocked out an old doorway in their cellar and found a child’s handwritten prayer for his parents – it had been there at least 150 years since the building was converted into an inn.

In my first house in the space between the floorboards and the cellar opening a box containing 4 US stock certificates dating from the 1930’s. I framed them, they looked rather nice. Unfortunately when I moved I forgot about them and they stayed there, on the bog wall.

    😐

Never thought about valuation nor ownership..

Under the house, all kinds of stuff, old mirrors, tiles, nothin exciting. But, hidden in a recess in the built in wardrobes was what can only be described as a cosh. We bought the house off a 75 year old lady

Given the age, I would imagine that whoever has the physical certificate owns them.

    a badly maintained boiler?

Previously, a whole stash of poor quality japanes / chinese porn on CD. In a far earlier house, almost the entire belongings of an evicted family, complete with kids presents (just after xmas) and half used roles of wrapping paper. I had no idea when the house was bought (on spec from a building society) very, very sad.

In the loft a kind of mad shrine surrounded by pictures of yachts.

But the daily mail, that’s really bad.

I found a safe and spent the next year trying to open it. Eventually got it open and found the manual and some heavy duty screws 🙁 I also found a loft full of empty PH component boxes form 1990 onwards and a basement full of late night TVinfomertial exercise equipment!

A walled up wardrobe, with various 70’s children’s clothing. They’d just hung the plaster board on top of the wardrobe doors

In our previous house, a piano and an empty calor gas cylinder.

It’s surprisingly difficult to get rid of pianos in London. Especially if your front door is up a flight of steps…

My uncle and aunt moved into their new place last year and while having the boiler serviced the engineer commented on how nice their shotgun was.

Cue phone call to police to report said shotgun being found in the house and armed response unit turning up to remove said (unlicensed) firearm.

Caused a bit of a stir in the village apparently!!
