    Right then.
    ive got a 56 plate Trendline sliver swb,with a 160,000 on the clock.
    needs new glowplugs timing belt may aswell seen as doing glow plugs
    body work where i scraped it down side,holes in roof where light was.
    new front tyres needed.,

    how much is it worth?
    would it best option to sort the work out or sell as it is?

    sounds like a grand or so of work… van is probably worth about £5.5k if it’s a simple van, so i guess anything in the region of £4.5k is probably about right.

    Depends how big the scrape is, rest of work is about 600ish. 160k will put a lot off but not all on a transporter. Trendline spec would help it sell.
    You’ll get more if you get it all sorted out but it’s hassle and time to do it all!

    why do you think the glow plugs need doing out of interest? is it taking ages to start?

    i had computer on it at garage showed need new glow plugs
    its trendline SE 130
    hmm may have have work done then
    steve scrape is down on the sill all the way on between both wheels,5″ high

    I wasn’t aware that a 2.5 diesel t5 had a cambelt to change, I’m fairly sure they are gear driven cams.

    Yeah 2.5 T5 is definitely gear driven .. also has a cam made from chocolate 🙁 .. paid £10,000 for a low mileage van that lasted a day before cam went 🙁

    No Cambelt in the 2.5.

    I’ve got a 2.5 130 Kombi which I think I have to sell soon 🙁

    Looks like I’m out the country for an extended time soon.

    If you get the bodywork fixed, you’ll get it back as they’re pretty popular.

    No worries ! Sorry if that sounded a bit “cleverdick”. Just didn’t want anyone pulling the wool and charging you for something which didn’t need doing !
    If you do decide to sell it, don’t give it away, it’s that time of year when folk want to build campers and Transporters do fetch decent cash.

    I wouldn’t worry about the roof holes – to get them welded, smoothed & then the roof sprayed would be a PITA, any way you can get bungs & seal them?

    Timing chain on 2.5’s so won’t need doing, although the water pumps are a particulary soft form of cheese, so worth looking at that. Worth checking with your local VW Van Centre regarding the service/parts – I was amazed to find ours was substantially cheaper for a major service (with cam belt) than the local specialists due to offers they are running.

    160k wouldn’t put me off if it looked clean & tidy. Ours has done 160k now. As long as it’s been serviced/looked after, you will still get good money for it 🙂

    cant find any bungs seal for it.
    but i really want them doing proper now.

    I have a 2.5 130 T5, just be aware that the water pump and the power steering pump are both within the engine (poor design) and if the former fails it can thrash the bearings. Juddering clutches can be a problem as well, so always get the mechanicals done by someone who knows what they are doing.
    Other wise brilliant, mine is 05 70k miles and it prob only lost a £1k over 3 years I have owned it.

    ^^ ? There are many engine variants across both t4 and t5.
    In diesels alone, normal uk specs could include;

    T4 1.9d, 1.9td, 2.4d, 2.5 tdi( two output variants)

    T5 1.9tdi, 2.5tdi there are two varaints of each

    T5.1 More recent developments here with two ( i think) frugal 2.0 tdi

    The O.P. has a 130 bhp 2.5tdi T5.

    Before changing the glow plugs google poor starting on 2.5 T5 there are a number of reasons this can happen.
    HAve you ever noticed the oil level creeping up? ie never goes below max mark but goes over max mark? There are a few issues with high mileage T5`s leaking fuel from the injectors while not running and the fuel finds its way into the sump! Causes poor starting as it takes a while to rebuild fuel pressure. Its not cheap to fix!

    it starts ok.
    just the engine management light is on,had it on the computer at Brickwerks i might add and it came up as glow plug fault.
