Absolutely amazing technology – I thought it was just a good and entertaining fake – but having dowloaded the app my mind is now being blown by what it can do.

    is it a free app?

if it does what the video purports to show then it’s good 🙂

    I thought you’d discovered soap-on-a-rope!

Yeah – I’m particularly impressed how it renders the translation onto the image using fonts that aren’t even installed on the iPhone. 🙂

Take that back – thought it was a wind up but it is really very good!!

Red Laser is another (free) app that impresses me.

It scans barcodes then searches online for the cheapest price for an item. Works well!

just tried it in demo mode (reverse words). It’s pretty neat – if the translations are as good as the text recognition it owudl certainly help ‘get you by’ in another country.

    My name backwards is;

    FU EKUL WORRUB

    apparently, which is close…

Hmmm. Having had some experience using some of the doc scanning apps on the iPhone…well….I dunno. Going to give it a try tho….

    Edit: Knackers…in app purchase 🙁

If this had Greek in it, I would defo give it a shot for £3.

allthegear: I was right there with you – saw the video – thought it was just a fun fake on a friday morning…

    Then downloaded the app..

Now reversing every printed word I can get my mittens on… I’m very close to breaking my cheap-ass “nothing over 59p” rule on App downloads to get the translator

Brilliant. Augmented Reality apps are the future.

Google Goggles is also pretty amazing:

Just had a demo of it from a chap in the office. Very impressive. Pay version only does Spanish at the moment apparently.
(doesn’t really make me want an iPhone though 😉 )

One of my colleagues visits HK and China quite a lot – he’s bouncing around hoping they release a Chinese/English version soon.
