Set off for work this morning on the bike for my 20 mile commute, raining a bit but not that cold. Wife mentioned before I left that the forecast said risk of icy roads, not likely I said as it’s not cold. Well I was wrong there.
Didn’t notice any ice but my back wheel slipped under power once but I thought it was just wet leaves. Got 8 miles into my commute, reached for my water bottle and went down with a bang and a long slide. Ripped bar tape, hole through expensive jacket, hole in jersey and shorts but I couldn’t see any damage to my skin. Couldn’t ride any further as I could barely stand up on the ice and I didn’t fancy carrying on with a hole in my jacket in the pissing rain. So rode back home.
Got home to find an impressive amount of road rash on my hip and a large hole and gash on my elbow.
Got showered and drove to work. Noticed that the puddles in the car park were iced up so it must have been very cold during the night then warmed up early morning and the rain hid the ice.
I’m quite sore now.
Oh and any recommendations of where to buy a goretex repair patch.
