  • That expensive double barrel shock…

    ..in the review section.

Theres some of these at my work so I’ve borrowed one to try out.

Its transformed the ride. The bike doesn’t wallow like it did (from a Fox RC) and because the nearest size is 20mm shorter eye to eye its lowered the BB and slackened off the angles.

What model of Patriot is that? Are they 200mm 888’s – how does that effect the handling?

Is it the case that they are custom made for the buyer and therefore I assume it is not set up for you, or that bike?

I think I have one of those shocks as well. Makes my Pushed DHX5 feel like poo.

Its a 2003 Patriot 7+ off ebay so I could use the Monster T’s, Hope E4’s and double wide rims that I bought cheap. It came with a 222mm eye to eye Fox RC. The double barrel shock was a little bit shorter but I was keen to try it out.
As it happens the handling feels better. The c of g is lower and the angles put it into a more attack position.
Don’t know if its custom valved. I suspect with the range of adjustability on offer theres probably no point.

    AFAIK theyre all custom valved?

The older ones weren’t as if they were it would kinda defeat the point of being able to tune fast and slow rebound and compression via the dials.

I have one for my IH 6 point, which is overkill on the DW link tbh.

I have to add, I did get mine of ebay for £250, and sold the DHX air (which was shite) for £270 or else I wouldn’t have one.

    andyg formula student?

the problem is i need two one for the front and one for the rear of my whyte preston single speed,, it would also need a special body made to get the remote res in the right place,,still i suppose i’ll have to stick the the old fox air shocks with the pro pedal that i never use

needed one for the AM as the mid stroke blow through of the supplied Monarch 4.2 became a bit problematic.

and my 6 Pack benefited massively from the CCDB, so does the AM 🙂

    Pedant mode

If the fork is shorter then it will steepen not slacken frame angles.

    Pedant mode off

richc – then you should hit things harder and dial in HSC to perfection !

Whilst that’s true, if the shock is shorter (and that’s what the OP states), the angles should be slackened.
