Having posted on here before about badly timed mechanicals, this one takes the biscuit.
My lovely Stumpy Evo expert, my first carbon bike. (http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/new-bike-time-and-related-stuff-you-thought-you-didnt-need) Bought last year, then after 4 weeks of ownership I had a ruptured disc in my back meaning a canceled alps trip (PPdS and surrounds, Villars is a heck of place).
Was in bike shop getting a new BB (press fit thingies are beyond me) and forks fettled in prep for this years onslaught. As we wheel it out (with LBS owner Stefan telling me i really need to wash my bikes more) we noticed a wee ‘chip’ in the pain on the top of top tube above the shock mount. Closer inspection showed that this was a significant 2 inch long crack.
Could just be the paint, so he called Spec quickly and they confirmed a few of the 2015 model XLs have failed at that point. FFS! Now on its way back to specialised to get sawn in half to confirm a warranty job, but not in time for thursday.
So, that pathetic excuse for a bike will not ever be going to the alps.
Three questions:
1) How d’ya reckon a Surly ICT with 100mm blutos will manage?
2) Will the PPdS guys get a solution for the lifts around les lindarets which currently cannot take tires wider than 2.9″? (i asked them, apparently they are discussing ‘problem tire’ today with all the lift operators)
3) How are specialised at free replacements?
Poop!
