    HI all

I am considering one of the Elite DSW bikes. can anyone assist with the following:

I understand that the rear spacing is a special ‘SCS’ standard. I would want to stick my existing nice disc wheelset in there. There are some hints online of a replacement hanger that will allow 9mm qr to go in there. Has anyone managed this?

Also, does the same stupid SCS standard apply to the cheaper A1 frame?

Finally is there any real reason to spunk the extra money on the DSW frame? I’ll be replacing the entire drivetrain immediately anyway.

    Ta Andy

Can’t speak for the DSW Diverge, but my Diverge A1 is non-scs and takes standard wheels.

Got a Roubaix SL4 disc as well and that was SCS, but a non-scs hanger is available and as such I’ve converted mine to non-scs – I’d imagine the same can be done for the DSW Diverge.

    Hope that helps,

    A

Do you like you A1 version?
Where did you source the hanger from?

Yeah, I like the A1. Been really pleased with it. Comfy over long distance, longest ride was 152 miles!

Started out with a basic Claris A1, and stripped it as soon as I got home and rebuilt with 5800 105, RS-685 hydros, kinesis crosslight disc wheels and a cobl-goblr post. Was my main road bike until the roubaix arrived.

Now used as my winter/crap weather/commuter bike!

Hanger was from my specialized LBS for the roubaix.

The specialized concept stores seem pretty good on getting obscure bits when needed.

Thought the A1 was an old Secteur frame.

My carbon came with an alternative hanger, which I haven’t used, but I can’t see how you’d use a 9mm qr without some very peculiar spacer arrangement. I thought the hanger was to allow use of a standard thru axle hub.

FWIW I like the wheels – light and tubeless ready. If you want to sell a set…

I think only the ones with the rear through axle are SCS. I’m 90% sure that my 2016 Elite DSW (through axle front, QR rear) is conventional (135mm??) spacing, as the wheel dropped straight into my trueing jig – I can measure it tomorrow if there is no consensus here.

I’m also pretty sure that the alternative hanger for the SCS versions is for a through axle, non SCS hub.

The DSW frame reviews well compared to the A1. What that translates to in real life, I don’t know, but I do *really* like the way it rides. I just wish it came with hydraulic brakes :/.

Tillydog have you tried a normal qr wheel in there to see if it fits?

Yup the a1 is non scs, the rest of the line your buggered. I had the a1 and the wheels are the only thing that let the bike down, they weight an absolute ton. There’s a diverge owners group on facebook with a massive following and tones of information.

No, but I could. Will let you know this afternoon.

I’ve a DSW Diverge 105 with hydraulics 🙂 – as far as I can ascertain (and there’s not even any real consensus from Specialised support) the DSW frame, assuming it’s still qr, is non SCS (as noted above qr frames have a normal chainline).

However… I think that the rear wheel (Axis 4.0) on mine has an SCS hub, and uses a special hanger to ensure the chainline is correct. When I look at the hanger there’s a small offset, which I assume compensates for the 2.5mm difference in spacing.
If you want to use a normal wheel, the you need an alternate hanger (Wheels Manufacturing 146 I believe)

This is all as I understand it at the moment- I’ve new wheels on the way, so will be finding out for sure soon enough.

EDIT: I’ve just ducked out to the garage and had a look at the rear hub- it has ‘SCS 1532 N E’ printed on it- I assume from the labelling it’s an SCS hub, and what I’ve written above is likely to be correct.

I have a 2016 DSW Diverge (silver one) and it is QR and SCS on the rear.

See this link from the Specialized website

    http://specialized.desk.com/customer/portal/questions/11651218-options-for-road-disc-wheels-with-scs-spacing-

I think you just need the 9890-4227 hanger which is a standard hanger while the SCS is rebated.

I will buy some new wheels in the spring and will try out the hanger.

I was wrong – my Diverge (2016 DSW Elite) has an SCS rear wheel with QR:

The hub is marked ‘SCS 1532 P.B’

    Diverge Axis 3.0 wheel:

    135mm mountain bike rear:

The chain does *just* clear the hanger – it probably wouldn’t if there was a full cassette on there. The fact that the wheel fitted in my truing jig means nothing – SCS doesn’t change the width (doh! 😳 ), just the position of the cassette (and spoke flange).

All explained in this pdf from specialized clicky

A standard wheel should be OK with a straight hanger, though (i.e. without the dog-leg).

    Sorry for any confusion caused.
