You have too much money, whats wrong with M520's for £19.95? 😆

    For you?

    XTR 🙂

makes no difference though, apart from a teeny bit of weight

@£77 on CRC, XTR are 'reasonable'.

M520's are impossible to service – bearings all over the shed floor.
XT's are easy to service. as are the XTR's.
therefore XT's are more cost effective in the long term.

At £20 and a huge lifespan, why would you bother?

M520's are fine for me too, and for under £20 what more do you want?

M520 are easily serviceable with the right tool and some grease into lob into the pedal cavity before screwing teh axle back in.

I think there's maybe an argument that the bit the cleat rests on wears out but I don't know if the same applies to xt or xtr.

Oh hang on this is TLR we are talking about, only King etc is good enough (he muist be some rider, I bet he's shite) so he MUST buy xtr 🙄

i've serviced M520's before, but lobbing in grease isn't true servicing.
and i like King due to the success i've had and the ……….longevity……….

you're a very sad man, Al, looking for e-fights.

I've 2 pairs of 540's (XT's) and if I'd had the cash at the time I'd have bought 2 pairs of XTR's – buy XTR if you've the cash

Buy XTR and be done with it, or buy 520 and replace every 2/3 years if you really can't service them.

I bought M520's and have done about 30 miles on them…bearing on one of the pedals already feel squared.

As always, you get what you pay for, and I paid about £17 for these

Ran some 520s for hundreds of miles without servicing…eventually got a bit of play so serviced those and some XT ones at the same time and servicing the 520 was no harder but just required the special tool. Buying again, I'd buy 520s or 540s.

problem with 520's is the loose ball's for the bearin race.
    all over the shed floor.

A sad man eh? I'll take you down on the trails!

Disagree re "proper" servicing, but your standards are clearly much higher than mine. I've got a pair of deore's from the mid 90's smooth as you like, never "properly" serviced.

Actually can we leave out Glentress? IIRC you own the ultimate bike for GT so I'd be at a disadvantage.

Them new Ritchey Paradigms look the biz. They've supposedly fixed the serviceability problem this year.
