do you need an adaptor to run a 165mm rotor on the front or does the caliper just bolt straight to the forks??

EDIT, that might be just 160mm though

or maybe with 5mm of washers?

Yeah, post mount forks are ready for 160mm rotors as standard if you just bolt them straight on.
You might fidn there is an allowence for the extra 5mm in the brake body so you might not need any washers (i didnt for some brakes i did a while back)
But if you do a couple of washers would work a treat.

bolt on, but you need the original cones/washers for spacing
