So had a sound test done on one of the pairs of semi detached two weeks ago, it failed! Just short of £500 quid to test, they come up with some solutions including ripping out the kitchen and reboarding the whole party wall!!! Then it’s a case of get them back pay another £500 and they’ll retest!! Can’t/don’t believe this so get a different company in, mention nothing of the first test, and it passes!! Wtf!! Somebody telling porkies here for some extra cash??

I’d be getting your architect to answer some questions if he has designed a building that can’t satisfy regulations. He should be footing the cost of any remedials.

You did check the professional competence of the first company and it’s employees didn’t you? Your best bet is usually to check with Institute of Acoustics or make sure that the consultant holds at least membership or fellow status.

If they they are members of the IOA there is a strict professional code of conduct and ethics and they can be stripped of the their status in the event of gross misconduct.

You never know the first company may have actually got it right and the second got it wrong, used equipment out of calibration etc.. just because the results go in your favour doesn’t mean their right.

As above I’d be having a word with the project manager to get him to chase up both companies and ensure that you actually have some robust data from a reputable, qualified consultant somewhere in the mix.

Did anyone else picture a bloke tapping an orange Five swingarm with a tuning fork before opening this thread?…. 😀

We followed robust detailing stating 100mm cavity, skin of thermalites either side, 6mm Gyproc soundcoat then dot/dab 15mm pboard. It’s all pretty straight forward regarding the actual construction but I do wonder how one got it to pass and the other fail??’

Who’s the company that did the second test?
Could use somebody other than the current bunch we have.
