You have enough straw men there to have a game of football

    I believe in equality

That video is a step for equality in the same way Page 3 is.
Are you really suggesting those of us who object to this dont beleive in equality?
I think we all understand we find certain people sexually attractive we are merely suggesting that praying on this, to sell stuff, is a bit boorish.

problem is junky if one persons feminist stance impedes another woman’s pride in what she does? bit like the women’s rights protester getting punched out by the scouse model for getting on her catwalk and ruining what she saw as her empowered position to make a good living that she was in control of? see? not all black and white

if the woman in that vid is perfectly happy to do it and feel totally comfortable with HER choice then who are you to make judgement on how it reflects on the wider gender equality issue? are you saying that she is incapable of making the correct decision, or that she is so weak willed that she is the unknowing pawn in exploitative advertising campaign?

*wind whistles through the void of Tazzies Skull, disturbing tumbleweeds ..in the distance the sound of s lone brain cell weeping*

I must find time to wear other things than T shirts as apparently a mans visual appearance is ok to comment upon and make judgements about mental capacity etc..yet to look a the female frontaqe with a tongue firmly in cheek is gross exploitation…

    double flippin standards folks!

    either never make a comment about anyone appearance, ladies you can’t find men attractive or say so or ever have a dignified ladylike letc;

and men, no more looking at ladies ever, or commenting upon how lovely you partner looks etc..

and no boy on boy or girl on girl appreciation either.

I believe in equality not misandry or puritanical hysteria dressed up as feminism.

The species is dependant upon finding each other bits really quite interesting, it’s biological and even in matriarchal societies folks still look at each others bits so its not purely a cynical construct of a misogynistic system intent on reinforcing gender stereotypes ..maybe get over it a bit and embrace your inner animal (within a socially acceptable and gender neutral boundaries of course)

…so perhaps a little guilty though whilst supping on half caf skinny moccaflippychino and trying to be all PC may not end up with you burning in the fiery pits of a potentially not existent hell (although science would suggest the afterlife may not exist and the likelihood of deities of any denomination is slim, it would be remiss of me to make any comment which may be deemed as derogatory or degrading to any other human, well hominid as there may be some big foot or something which sort of count as well?)

do boy big foot look at lady big foots fury bouncy bits and have a similar crisis I wonder?

    My 2p…

    I don’t care honestly.
Happy to ride with whoever gets on their bike and enjoys it.
I’m absolutely sure the girls are checking us out as much as we checked them out.
And ladies – I don’t care if your bum looks big if it looks good 😉

Yes – a nice pair sells stuff – can’t say that vid is ideal BUT it’s not overly rude and rather tame in comparison to so much that is on tv in general!
Flipside is how many bare male chests there are – from Maltesers to Cola, even frigging yoghurt!!!
Notice none of the “ladies” have complained….

Look at it this way – as an employer I’m not allowed under the Equalities Act to let anyone male out up a “titty” calendar.
Even if it’s in bikinis, charity, etc.
HOWEVER – it’s allowed and even acceptable for the ladies to have the Fireman, Mechanic, (insert other droolfest here).
If I stop them having them it’s predjudicial!!!!
    Work that out.

I imagine the difference is that men don’t routinely get pervy comments in the street or even the workplace, or get groped in nightclubs, or feel scared getting leered at waiting for a bus at night etc etc – never mind getting paid less for doing the same job.

This isn’t to claim that women are helpless victims, but pretending it’s the same for men and women is jut silly.

I think it’s very difficult to get ‘isms’ when you’re a white male in this country as you’ve never really had any discrimination against you ever (despite what the Daily Mail would have you believe).

And there’s a big difference between accepting the natural appreciation of the sex you’re attracted to and welcoming a tacky video of some tits bouncing around on a bike, designed to sell t-shirts.

Do I still need to “work it out” ?

Grum – having worked abroad – women are FAR WORSE than men when out as they can get away with what men can’t.
They grab, grope, letch, shout, etc safe in the knowledge they won’t get the repercussions that men have.

Neil – it is true. If they want to get sticky, even the magazines, etc can be deemed inappropriate if they choose.
Hence why we have Evo, GQ, Superbike, Nutz and Hello.

Males, females, gay, lesbian, cars, bikes and techno all catered for 😉

Don’t you think we’re all a little bit out of touch? We were around in the 80s when Political Correctness had a big push, what with alternative comedy and the ‘new man’. Things seem to have gone full circle and back to how they were in the 70s.
See Mylie Cyrus, et al, “selfies”… as I said in the Online Dating thread – I was pretty amazed at how cheaply the 20-30 years olds sell themselves on dating sites – selfies down the cleavage, lying in bed etc.. who are we to say it’s not ok, when they think it is normal?

So you reckon, on a global level – men suffer far more from sexism than women? Really? 😕

Porn has made this normal that’s why, we’ve got girls who think that this sort of behaviour is ok, it’s being rammed down our throats every day* from adverts, from the net, from our work from our hobbies, everywhere.

Not here, just have plenty of friends who are talented riders who let their riding do the talking. Keeping up an expectation that the women are window dressing for the “PROPER” mens riding.

Yes Dez BUT women are now calling the shots and it’s on their terms. For that type of thing that is, they probably consider themselves ’empowered’. 🙄

    Exactly what I was saying….

Are they “calling the shots”? was that girl in the original video? “Shall we point the GoPro at my tits?”…

Come on Dez that girl was having a ball! You don’t think anyone ‘persuaded’ her to take part? 😀

Edit: of course it could be argued that everyone’s turned into an attention whore thanks to technology. 😉

Yes but it is now ok because of exploitation of women through Porn . Some of things my friends now think is ok, ( and not just bedroom stuff) is just weird, it’s like we’re sucked into this weird Porn/ idealised/bitch fest where pointing a Gopro at your tits is apparently ok behaviour!!! How brainwashed do you need to be??

Answer; just enough to go along with it all, and think that your being “empowered” by it!!

Getting a bit Rad Fem, better stop I suppose 🙄

I tend to agree with you emsz, but that’s cos of how we were educated in the 80s. (NME was my education on these matters!), but it’s all gone back again.

You don’t think anyone ‘persuaded’ her to take part?
That’s kind of my point too – just the way things are now, she had no idea that it would cause 6 pages of STW discussion… (And for me to post serious stuff DAMMIT!)

I dont think you are correct but I am sure each gender has a spectrum of opinion on oogling but it seems a safe bet to assume men do more of it than women.

we’ve got girls who think that this sort of behaviour is ok

Of course they do it, is everywhere in society but that does not mean it is a good thing or a step forward.

Cyrus twerking , or Brittany dressing as a schoolgirl , are good examples. They may well have “chosen” to act like that but it is not that great that they feel they have to sell records.

Personally I struggle to see how women overly sexualising themselves for either attention or to sell products can be viewed as a positive thing for either the woman or society.
Its relentless and it pervades too much of life IMHO
One offs may be amusing but its just tiresome, predictable and archaic
Emsz I heard that one of the “positives” of porn was that teenage pregnancies were on the decline due to endings being replicated in the real world

C_G I am a parent but of boys. Being father has not affected my opinion on this issue one way or the other.

Well clearly it’s possible it was her idea, but which scenario seems most likely “let’s do a video of my tits” or “let’s do a video of a girl’s tits to sell lots of our dodgy Ts”?

for balance we need rob warner to do his own version with a gopro pointing down his bum cleavage

I suppose to put it another way, Im guessing all the blokes that like the vid have the testicular fortitude to make their own video of themselves riding with a gopro angled on their meat and two veg in a pair of these?

    [not answering for emsz here]
the answer is a world that grows up a bit. I can see the it’s only a bit of fun argument in some ways and it would be except there is every chance it wasn’t her idea and she went along with it. I linked the Charlotte Church – John Peel Lecture because it was the perspective of someone who had come through it. There is a solid line between finding someone attractive and objectifying them, expecting that they behave in a certain way due to how they look etc.

    emsz

they may well have chosen to act like that but it is not that great that they feel they have to sell records or attract men.

More like fat old record execs made the decision for them. 🙄

Like I said, stuff that girls think is OK has come from a flood of images ( films, pictures, music vids… Bike vids) that make it something it’s almost impossible to resist

I’m not immune to it, I’ve an image of myself that is directed by society, even mainstream TV ads has told me I’ve got to have sculpted pubes FFS!!!
