going back a few years Ti bikes were made by one of three companies, Litespeed, Merlin or Sandvik. I know what has happened to Merlin and Litespeed, but what has happened to Sandvik?

I thought Sandvik made Ti tubes. I didn't think they welded them together.

    Sandvik is now called BAHCO

    Are you sure…?

Bahco is a Swedish tool company that Snap-On bought out in 1999.

Sandvik is a Swedish engineering group

Made spares for some Sandvik machinery recently ,and probably cut the metal using Sandvik tools.
Sadly there was no Ti tubing involved.

Sandvik made King Kahuna ti race frames for Kona. Absolutely first class welding, the dogs nads in their day.

Had a Ti Kona Hei Hei with Sandvik sticker on but can't say whether they made the tubes only or actually welded it too. Designed by Joe Murray. Thing of beauty.

They may not fabricate anymore but I seem to remember from back in the day when I was a Ti geek that the Sandvik Special Metals plant in Washington State built many of the the own-brand Ti frames, including Kona, Marin, Diamond Back, GT Xizang etc.

Certainly what Kona said…(from a cached 2000-era webpage)

"Kona has been designing and selling Sandvik made 3-2.5 Titanium alloy frames for over 8 years"

"King Kahuna is made by Titanium Sports in Kennewick, Washington"

And Sandvik Special Metals is in Kennewick. IIRC Titanium Sports was SSM's fabrication devision.

I think it's the same company, looks like Sandvik bought over Bacho and started labeling there tools with the Bacho logo.
