And those collectors, fsakes it's meant to be used to be appreciated not kept in some box to have a hand shandy over now and then.

I had a look at one, it was quite good, lots of nice pictures thoughtful and thought provoking articles. Good production. £9 is a bit steep though

Just beautiful photography and well written articles, I can understand how shallow idiots like you would be disappointed.

The Ride is a pretty cool alternative – more of a book than a magazine. It's £7 a pop, but the photography and writing are worth it. It's not just for roadies, but all cyclists. Issue two had pieces by (among many others) John Tomac and Chris Hoy. Even the few adverts it contains are nicely designed and fit into the style of it.

They're giving away issue one as a PDF. I can't see Rouleur doing that 😉

The Ride is the same price now. They are both way better than any mtb mags.

Only magazines I read are Rouleur and The Ride.

In fact, issue three of The Ride is out tomorrow….

If anyone wants to send me an unwanted issue of Rouleur so I can sample it, I'll give you an opinion when I've read it. I love the way back issues go for more on eBay than buying the back issues direct. (And isn't it available via Wiggle these days?)

Rouleur is fantastic but i'm not a big fan of The Ride. Some good articles (& artwork) but too many written by ordinary joes waxing lyrical about their commute, or a ride they did on their own, or some other sh1t i do all the time and don't need to read about.

Another thumbs up for Rouleur here, I gave up on the mtb mags some time ago. £9 a quarter for something actually worth reading seems ok to me, although I have to admit I have no idea what this years ultimate trail machine is.

@swadey – yeah rouleur is on wiggle now, much better to buy it from there as rapha charge £4 postage!

1974s Cycling Weekly squeezed in between Rapha and Condor ads oh and some ads for retro style bikes.
Dull as dish water stories from yesteryear aimed at giving the tweed wearing fixie rider some back ground facts about the bike he rides up and down the Kentish Town Road so you don't recognise him for the poseur he is at the next diner party.
IMO there isn't a magazine out there that warrants opening. Even Cycling Weekly after decades of reporting races now just writes articles about how to pedal and what pasta to buy.
I'd rather buy an inner tube.
Got my copy of Rouleur Saturday afternoon and gave it away Saturday afternoon.

Sportives have given it a whole new market to aim at. Even 5 years ago there was no such thing as a Sportive bike yet now they're huge sellers.

Depending on which way you look at it it's either a great way of getting more people into cycling and the continued evolution of the bicycle or it's a marketing led gimmick to get people to part with yet more money and spend £30 to go for a road ride…

Some of the photography in Rouleur is very good. Some of it is faux arty rubbish. Still, they've got their target audience and (like Singletrack to a certain extent) it's only ever going to appeal to a certain niche.

Shallow idiot that's interesting. See I didn't buy it, I don't buy any mags apart from CW for the results and calender. I'd say that the market this mag is aimed at is shallow.
We have an article headlining the mag for a film that I saw a quater century ago.
It's full of ads including one for Paul Smith.
A huge article about people who don't like to unwrap bike parts!
Two adverts for retro'ique steel frames.
A photo 'not even story' about six days.
Getting Dropped ain't bad, but it's very lightweight and picture loaded.
The article about tubulars, not even mildly interseting. OK they're handmade but Faberge Eggs they ain't. And the virtues of Silks were known to me thirty years ago.
And the cartoon 1974 Giro D'Italia! South Park?
Though perhaps this was just a poor issue.
TBH there's not a bike magazine that does it for me, nothing is better than the riding, if there's no riding there's spannering and stuff to do. Lets face it if your at home alone you could even pass away a few hours on the Turbo for Gods sake.

I can't actually imagine a time when I'd choose to spend a couple of hours on a turbo.

I've remarked on the content, but I also think the finish quality of the photo sections is awfull.
The article about the collectors and the tubulars reminds me of the brief articles you find in those over sixties pension magazines like Saga?

This is like Madonas book 'Sex' all over again, art, porn or rubbish.

I've saw an early copy of it and agree with everything oldgit says.
