Potenital for endless guff spin-off movies – worrying, but not justified at this point.
There’s going to be 3 at least including this one – this film is supposedly covers the story of how the Death Star plans got stolen and ended up with Leia at the start of 4, the next is the story of Han Solo Prior to Star Wars and the final about Boba Fett between being a kid in the squeals and ending up in that hole in the sand with teeth.
Disney paid $4bn for the right to Star Wars, but they revert back to George Lucas after a number of years (I forget when) The Force Awakens took $2bn (and counting) but there’s $500m of production and advertising rights, plus some of the big players will be getting a % of gross and of course the Cinemas get a cut. So it ‘might’ only make $1bn to $1.25bn in actual profit. The next 2 ‘core’ Star Wars films might do better, might do worse, but it’s unlikely they could reach the same level of hype this one got – so without the spin-offs Disney might lose money on it!
I suspect they’ll be good, but they’ll probably be lower budget films and rely more on the hype from the core ones to push sales – they’ll make their money back on the Spin-Offs.
Lets just hope they’re no ‘Caravan of Courage’!
