My employer has just started the Bike to Work scheme, I fancy a bike for commuting and like the look of the Boardman Hybrids.

But how does a 50/36 chainring with MTB cassette and 700c tyres, compare to a typical MTB chainset and 26" tyres? I ride my MTB on the road and tend not to use the granny unless it gets silly steep. I live next to the peaks and the odd road gets high very quickly and I want to use the bike for fitness training as well.
