My ‘pub bike’ (specialised vegas 24, with a v brake on the front, a pretty distinctive bike, to me) got nicked before xmas. It was only worth £100, so I just put it behind me.

Today however, I saw some scrote riding it down the street. He was going away from me (I was on foot) so didn’t have a chance to do anything, but the bike is definately still near me, so I guess there’s a chance I’ll see it again.

If I do, where does the law stand on just robbing it back? I’m going to report the theft to the plod shop at lunchtime (to cover my bike) but lets imagine I see said scrote stopped at the side of the street, if I push him off the bike, get on and peg it, what are the possible consiquences?

And you get the bonus of not having to care about which shower of shite political party you should vote for whilst you are incarcerated.

Brief update : aformentioned chav tried to ride past me on the pavement today. Ended in a fist fight when he didn’t like me holding onto the bike and not letting it go. I now have my bike back, he didnt fall on the pavement and die.

    No bombers were involved

5lab good work, yer a brave man. i recovered my stolen P7 from a 13 year old kid, luckily he was terrified of me after I drove at him at 40mph..

I was awoken one night by some drunks coming down my road smashing wing mirrors at random. I heard one say he was “gonna wreck the red 405 there” i.e my car. I went to go out there and my wife said “You’ll either end up in Hospital or Prison”.. I backed off, pussywhipped, rolled over, went back to sleeep and paid 22 quid for an new after market wing mirror pod the next day.

That’s what you should have said to them.

Did you find out whether he had nicked it though ? Most bike thieves don’t steal so that they can ride the bikes themselves – often they are sold to completely unwitting individuals.

Anyways, well done. As someone who has managed in the past to retrieve goods which were stolen from me, I know what an elated feeling it is. It’s less to do with the money/cost involved, and more to do with the “satisfaction” element 8)

I’ll bet the guy riding it bought it from someone other than a bike shop, or a reliable source thou, what you reckon?

He probably didn’t steal it; however, he probably wasn’t ignorant to the fact that it was ‘warm’ either.

What did you say to him / what did he say?

No. He claimed he hadn’t stolen it, but was a blatent scrote. I stopped him (blocking the path) and said ‘thats my bike’
    ‘I’ve had it for ages’
‘It was stolen from me in November. I have a crime report with the Police, with the frame number recorded (I do have a crime report, I don’t have the frame number). If you want, you can wait here, and I’ll call them out’
‘Nah mate, you’ll have to take my phone number and give me a call’
    ‘That bikes not going anywhere’
    *tries to ride off*
    *I grab bike*
    *scuffel ensues*
    ‘I didn’t steal your bike’
    ‘Lets phone the police then’
    *scarpers*

He was definately aware it was ‘warm’ as they say. Was riding towards the local rough estate (moulsecombe for those local). Was on a busy road with loads of traffic so I expect he didn’t want any attention from the cops

“I didn’t steal your bike” is pretty damning evidence that he knew it was stolen, if he was genuinely innocent / ignorant he’d have tried to argue that it wasn’t stolen or that he didn’t know it was stolen.

    Little sod.

So in actual fact 😉 you saw someone on your stolen bike. Attempted to detain him until the police could attend and he ran off rather than wait for the police leaving you with the bike?

Nice work. Keep ( just about 🙂 ) within the law, recover your bike. Its a shame you couldn’t restrain the scrote long enough for the cops to attend but never mind. At least this way you didn’t end up using up a lot of valuable police time.

Nice one. More or less the same thing happened to me a short while ago. Had to chase the little smack head waster round his house threatening to give him a hiding to get it back. Thought I would stay really angry but even though it was slightly damged it was strangely satisfying.
