Army surplus goretex over trousers for a tenner off ebay – especially in desert camo (or as my gf calls it ‘Bright Beige’)

But if you don’t like looking like an idiot, even a smug, dry, cosy spend-thrift one then if you can still find them the Surface Liquistetch trousers are ace and in budget. Not goretex-like but they shed water and even if they do get wet trough they’re not unpleasant to wear. A pair of them over a nice base layer is perfect winter wear.
