With CA licence just expired, I am looking for a good, reliable and cheap or free virus checker. I have 3 PC's to cover. Any pearls of wisdom much appreciated.

    Thanks

AVG free slows down machines and is only about 50% effective.

KASPERSKY, WITHOUT A DOUBT!!! (yes, I'm shouting)

    Free with Virgin broadband now.

AVG free is, as the name suggests, free – but it's not the best out there. It'll do the job though as long as you're sensible about suspect e-mails and you don't surf dodgy websites….. I'm using it at the moment until Virgin release a Win7 version of their PC Guard software 🙁

    http://www.superantispyware.com/
    & this has been ok

Microsoft Security Essentials. Seems to work really well and consumes almost no resources in the process.

try the malwarebytes i would not trust symantec anyway itwill find result but you may have to pay for software to remove it,if malwarebytes does not find & destroy it looks like hijackthis & killbox are the way to go 😀

    have faith.
ps you may need to turn off your system restore when doing a scan otherwise the malware will be restored when you reboot because system restore folders are protected when turned on & the malware will laugh at you in a hidden/protected folder, just remember to turn back on afterwards 😆

Avira free edition + regular scan with malwarebytes + Windows firewall + one monthly run of ccleaner.

All free, all great and none of them are system hogs.

Yep, just started using Avira cos citrix client wouldn't work through AVG. Have used Avast for years and years and years and think it's great – but the updates practically bring the PC to a shuddering halt.
