I’ve been caught out in some bad day light weather lately on the road where cars have put their lights on.

What rear light would you recommend for the day time?

Ok Phaart sounds good, but googled, and it comes up with STW saying its not very water proof. Some times riding has been like being in a swimming pool of late so might not be so good!

Moon Shield 60. USB rechargable, very bright, can be had for around £30 if you shop around.

I have a Lezyne Femto also, very good. Taken a lot of abuse and used in very wet and up to -10 conditions and still works fine.

What price being seen as opposed to not? Go for the TL1000/1100 they are even bright enough to cut through mist. Try looking at it, you’ll have red spots in your eyes for a while!

Thing that puts me off the Femto is that it looks like it has zero visibility from side on.

Cateye Rapid 3? I’ve got a couple that have gone through thick and thin this year in terms of the weather without fail. Maybe I’m lucky but never had an issue with Cateye lights.

I’ve got a couple of the Raleigh RSP Astrum lights which are the same as the On One Phaart dual half watt lights, they are brilliant to the point of being offensive on group rides. Whichever you get put some silicone grease or Vaseline on the rubber seal to make it more waterproof although I did this once a couple of years ago which has now wore off and the lights haven’t played up after many long wet 2012 rides

Yep. Very bright and I liked the 2 bulb random flashing, too…seems quite attention grabbing,however, mine only lasted 2 weeks before it bounced itself out of the clip-loop on my saddle bag. Great light, shite clip.

I’ve been using a Cateye TL-AU100 for years. Living out in the rain, commuting through floods and mtbing in all conditions.

Top tip: place a lamp on the seat post, just under the saddle, so it can’t bounce out. Keeps the rain off too, although my AU100 lives happily attached to the rear rack.

I use a bontrager flare three. Very bright, really good, eye catching flickering mode and it has a quick release so it lives in the bottom of my bag ready to attach to whatever bike i’m on.

Another vote for the Lezyne Femto. They’re so compact and solid, they’re perfect to have rattling around the bottom of your Camelbak for months on end, and knowing they’ll still work when you dig them out.
