Just been to Tesco and they have 700ml penderyn peated whisky for £16.50. Not tried it before but is half the price it was a few weeks ago.

Anyone tried it?

Yeah I’ve had it. It’s the only whisky I’ve ever almost left on the bar after the first taste. It was awful. I’ve tried a few malts (but no specialist), but there was one from the clachaig that was described as tasting like pencil shavings that had a nicer taste! I’m in no hurry to buy it…IMHO obviously!

When it was first released, Penderyn was really, really good. It has, however, been on some sort of downward side ever since and they are apparently having a lot of quality issues.

I guess Tesco saw it being sold off cheap and thought they would make the most of it. People will buy enough of it just because it’s ‘different’.

When it was first released, it was alright and overpriced. I remember thinking it’d be really good when it was finished.

At 13 sovs though, that’s a steal, so I think I’ll be grabbing a bottle. I strongly suspect that it’s a shelf-clearing exercise, ie, when it’s gone there won’t be any more. They did the same with Maker’s Mark a little while back, and I’m still kicking myself for not clearing them out at £15 a pop.

I had a bottle of the special reserve that they knocked out last year and it was very nice/different to my usual choice single malts. Might slide by our tesco tomorrow as I only ever buy my whiskeys when they are on offer, same as bikes and parts 😆

Sainsubury’s Speyside single malt is also half price at the moment too. Same price. Must be whisky wars.

I’m not a fan of Penderyn personally.
