"Pretty" commuters.

The girlfriend is moving to Edinburgh and quite wants a commuter bike that can take a rack and mudguards, has a low step frame and plenty of gears to grind up the mound on.

Usual choice would be a Giant- I sell them in the shop, she already has a Giant road bike and she likes the look of this-

However, they're out of stock with Giant in her size, the Trek Allant is too expensive and the Norco we sell is too ugly.

So, the world is our oyster in terms of £250 commuter bikes that look good- can anyone recommend anything? Can't go over that budget as all funds are coming from the sale of her MTB.

Mudguard, rack, basket, chainguard, skirtguard. All missing from that bike.

V8 Shin Print- I'm looking at what the Edinburgh shops have. EBC's Revolution at £280 she won't like the colour of (it's more important than how it works to an extent!), Leith can get in a Dawes Heritage but it's only got a single front ring which is no good to her (she can't arrive sweaty).

Aye, the women's one is "too light a blue".

If money were no object I suspect she'd get the Giant Chixie, regardless of the fact that she couldn't use it in a skirt or ride up hills on it.

Minimum requirements for a commuter should be mudguards and chainguard.

Get her a proper bike you tightwad!

No need for a triple chainring any way - 1x9 is fine for round town - even for MrsTJ and she ain't no racing snake.

Why not commuterise her MTB she is selling? Road tyres and mudguards and she is sorted

Jezza- she can't wear it with a skirt. That and the cost of commuterising as opposed to new bike + freeby kit from the shop isn't a sensible option.

I've drawn the line. I won't let her have a bike like that. They weigh a billion tons and they make me angry.

Looks like the Summer or the Giant.

Rolf - be open minded - you get a much better bike for the money in that style than a cheapo MTB shaped object as a commuter.

Cooler as well and I bet no heavier than what you proposed by the time mudguards and so on are added
