My 5y son wants a skateboard. How suitable is a penny/plastic deck? or should I just get a normal modern one?

He has never skated before but was on a peddling bike before he was 4 and before is great on a micro scooter. Got all the safety gear already.

make sure the wheels aren’t too hard and have good bearings so they roll over stuff and don’t stop on the slightest stone, leading to an off…

I wouldn’t buy a retro board for a small kid. A wider deck and trucks would suit a beginner far better than a narrow set-up and to be frank, some things are far better left in the past!

A recent thread about similar things with links and all!

Yea, a decent board is on the cards. The board above is £50 rrp (Flying Tomato branded too!). Big wheels soft wheels.

Most of the new school boards I have seen have tiny freestyle wheels hence looking at a retro board.

Thanks, will check out the thread above.
