The last two times I've been out on the bike I've ended up with an itchy rash on my legs (and the second time my arms too) that became really itchy two days later. I wondered the first time if it was something in stagnant water in muddy puddles but the arms being itchy doesn't support that – and I was definitely being buzzed by a cloud of midges Sunday while trying to fix a puncture.

Are midge bites causing the rash? Anyone else experienced this? I always thought that midges didn't bother me much, and I've never had such a rash before. My mate who I was riding with had the same thing.

Is it the damp but warm summer? Have fierce Scottish midges migrated south?
