I m not a great fan of flat pedals. But through the winter the slippery local trails can sometimes make spds a little too treacherous to clip in to do some descents, so I usually try and rest the foot on the pedal .. which is not ideal and will very often slip off.
Was thinking of getting the shimano M545. Do feet slip off easilly when not clipped in them?

    Thanks.

They are better than the pure spuds Ant, but not great grip. I always clip into mine.

I swear by them got 3 pairs. I can bring some along for you to try if you want next time we are out.

I’m riding at about 2 on Sunday if you are about.
