Hi, will be staying near Millom next week and hope to get out for some night rides on the North Face trail. Can anyone suggest a place to park for easy access to the trail? I am assuming any official car parks will be closed at that time of night?

I dont think it has a barrier... but could be wrong
Drive to Grizedale and park in one of the available car parks.
Or drive down the East side of Coniston lake and park in one of the available car park.
Don't bother with the north face trail! Loads of really good riding in grizedale if you take a map. If your insistent on doing the NFT though :), there are a few small car parks/lay bys just near to the visitors centre. e.g. If you were leaving the visitors centre, turn right out of it and down on the l/h side of that road are several lay-bys where you can park. Also think there is a car park a bit further down as well. for routes check out the bogtrotters website.
Dunnerdale is much closer and has brilliant rocky bridleways:
also Black Combe is an exciting downhill and is one mile from Millom 
You can visit the stone circle at Swinside on the way round it...
I rode there last summer and was disappointed (80% fireroad/ 20% offroad)I would find a route with some good bridleways if I was you.
Fair points and it does trouble me to go to man made stuff when in the Lakes but I am constrained to nights as I'll be with the family. Possibly less chance of getting lost on the NF trail!! Never done the whole thing before either.
Black Combe is noted though as I could ride from the door. I\ll look at the BT website - thanks

unreasonably long really If you search for "Dunnerdale Definitive" you'll find a route for all the best bits of Dunnerdale, but it's a tall order to factor in Black Combe too as it's quite a distance away and a big old climb after that other stuff!
was there the other weekend and was told the car park doesnt close....but I'm not sure how many car parks there are indeed if there are any more at all, sorry! The one I was in was one way loop going clockwise and had to go through two stone and I wuld describe it as at the bottom of the area, ride to top of car park and there's the adventure playground, kind of away from where the trail actually starts!
