i'm after a low light lens for my d3100. I'm leaning towards the 35mm. Has anyone any experience of these 2 lenses?

35mm is equivalent(ish) to a 50mm 'standard' lens on a d3100 and so will give a perspective almost the same as the human eye. I'm a big fan of this focal length as it produces great natural looking photos.
50mm will be equivalent to 75mm full frame so will be a very mild telephoto - better for portraits but (in my opinion) not as flexible as the 35mm would be.

I went for the 35 and have been very happy with it.
Never tried the 50, probably good too, depends what you're shooting I suppose.

I have the 50mm and its great. As a general walk around lens or for indoor family work i wouldrather have the wider 30mm. I use the 50mm for outside portraits and shooting stage performances, for this the 50mm is ace.

I've got the 35, it's brilliant. Nice and light so it was the only lens I took on our recent trip and the speed and bokeh down at 1.8 is great. Total bargain for how good it is!

50 is fx but has no built in motor unless you get the afs version.

I have the 50... would swap it for a 35 I think, closer to "normal"

I currently use a 35mm f2 and a 50mm f1.4, but have had a 50mm 1.8 in the very recent past.
To be honest, if I want a walkabout lens, it's always my 24mm. I like wide lenses!
