Need some good, reasonably strong, but not top-end, stoppers for my Genesis Altitude which I'm using as a winter bike.
I have Hope M4s on the Bfe, so know what proper stopping feels like, but don't need that on this bike - just summink better than the frankly scarily-lacking oomph on the Shimano M475 (or something or other) ones.
What's good value, good quality but middle of range for power?

Thanks for the suggestion Jeremy. Looks like neither Wiggle or CRC have them in - does that mean 2nd hand only for Hope Minis? (Which I'm not averse to, though it may be less simple).
Avid Elixirs - you should be able to pick them up for £80 each if you shop around the likes of CRC, Merlin etc.
Lot more power than Minis but maybe not quite as good on modulation as Hopes.

I have 3 bikes with hope minis - all bought secondhand. all just work now with no issues

Magura brakes are splendid things.
My 2005 Magura Louise FR's are still excellent for reliability, durability, feel and power and go to the alps every year for a right proper test amongst other places but can be a bit hit and miss to bleed.
My Magura Louise brakes from 2009 have been great too.
Had Hope Mini's then Shimano Deore, wich were massivly better, had Shimano XT, they were great until I crashed.
I'd stick with Magura these days though.
Thanks for tips all - would I be right in assuming that the 'IS Mount' bit will be fine with a 2009 Genesis?
Or alternatively, how can I tell if I need 'IS' or not? Thank you.
I got a set of new Formula RX for about £185 off Ebay for the pair with discs - they've been superb.
Have used Formula K18's before and also rated them.

K18's with discs and hardware for 132 euros and K24's for 152 Euro's - loads of disc size and postmount/is mount options.
Any modern offering from magura, hope, avid or formula would be fine.
Most modern brakes are good IMO.
