@ BoardingBob – from "Live Rust"?

For me, it can only be Van Morrison. One man who can reduce me to a quivering emotional wreck. Tough call but "Flamingoes Fly" from The Philosopher's Stone.

    Paul Weller – Whirlpool's End

'…Bullets fall like unholy rain, People change as the panic sets in. A frightened baby by her dead mother's side, in a brutal world where there's nowhere to run, hide or cry…'

    Genius!

CG, I'd have to go for the original recording. The rawness of the original recording is electric.

God..that's a difficult one… so many to choose from. Varies week on week, but at this precise moment it's Warren Zevon and probably Desperadoes under the Eaves.

out of interest – does anyone actually read these sort of threads and investigate other people's likes or do they just post their favourite and think that's that?

I'd have to go for Springsteen.

    Will Oldham.

Too many tracks to choose from – have to respect the cannon and go with I see a darkness, legendary track.

Just as a one-off, Raglan Rd sung by Luke Kelly is a peerless song. It's rare to get song lyrics written by a proper poet – rarer still to get them sung by an all time great vocalist. So when Luke Kelly gets to grips with Raglan Rd, written by the eminent Irish poet Patrick Kavanagh, you've got something really special.

Damn, this is tough, like Desert Island Discs, but with CG at the controls – and narrowed down to only one choice!
Generally speaking, music for me is about putting the listener in a different place, pressing emotional buttons.
There's no other way to do this, so I've gotta cheat. Favorite songwriter would still (despite recent decline in quality) be Rennie Sparks of the Handsome Family, for reducing me to ashes everytime I listen to "Milk n Scissors".
And honourable mention to Jason Lytle, formerly of Grandaddy, for writting at least three played-em-to-death classic albums. Again, pressing buttons to get a response – music by numbers – but by 'eck, he knew what he was doing! 8)
