I recently asked what was available – there's a bontrager mudx, which are nice 26 in tyres for mud

You don't need winter tyres for a 29er, the sun shines on the righteous you see 🙂

Bonty Mud-X 2.0 rear, Conti Mountain King 2.4 front on a rigid SS here around Northumberland/Co. Durham/Newcastle area. Both tyres work much better in 29er format than their 26er cousins although the MK has too much float (high volume) for really clarty mud.

+1 for the Bonty ACX's,all the tyre you'll ever need on a 29er for mud…

+2 for Bonty ACX, but they did get overwhelmed a couple of times in really claggy mud, not sure if a Mud-X would do better but I'm going to buy one anyway, not least due to the better clearance of the Mud-x. So I'm going to go for an ACX up front and a Mud-X on the back. Will prolly SS it as well to create the ultimate mud machine.

Incidentally what's better in the mud 26 or 29?

What is better in the mud? 26 or 29? – that will depend on the mud.

If it sticks to the tyres then 26 (less mud to carry around). If it doesn't and is just slippy then 29!
