I developed a nasty squeak in my Hope Pro 2 Evo hub at the weekend (following a wet ride the day before). I took the wheel out, removed the qr and span the wheel on the axle – nasty squeak tracked down but also an alarming crunchy noise/feel; replaced the bearing and problem solved.

Spinning the worn cartridge on a finger resulting in the squeak and crunch (which I could also clearly feel). Out of interest I removed one of the seals and was surprised how little grease there was in the cartridge (compared with the official Hope cartridge it had replaced) but it continued to squeak and grind.

This morning I absent-mindedly span the cartridge but this time is ran silent a silky smooth and soundlessly; it’s still buttery smooth and silent this evening; are they magic?

Clearly you’ve been visited by Bearing Elves. Did you accidently leave the lid off your grease? It’s like catnip to them
