    What time of the year?

For a few days and an airport close to the City, Venice is good. Rome is ok, but very hot a lot of the time. Lucca lovely and a train ride from Pisa Airport.

This place is pretty amazing http://www.santuariodioropa.it/db/en/camere-accoglienzamenu-46.html

Up in the mountains, very scenic with cable car to go higher, very reasonably priced and has some good restaurants.

Biella & Navarra are both really nice towns to stay in (same kinda area) plenty of culture etc. if you’d like to go somewhere other than the really obvious place others are suggesting 😉

Verona and Lake Garda. Used to visit a site there. Truly lovely place with churches, bridges, restaurants, etc and won’t have the tourists of the big places.

Bellagio or Menaggio on lake como or Lucca for Tuscany.
But if you’ve never been, Rome is hard to beat.

We flew into Venice marco polo them travelled out to a place called bassano del grappa, set at the foot of the alps with a stunning river coming through the town. Its (as in the name) the birthplace of grappa. Surrounded by vineyards so the wine ain’t bad and the grappa is cheap! Italian trains are top notch and it was an hr back into Venice! Oh and call me cliched but we had some pizza one day from a local deli, it was to die for!!!
