I got this email this morning:

Someone requested that the password be reset for the following account:

    http://singletrackworld.com/

    Username: geetee

If this was a mistake, just ignore this email and nothing will happen.

To reset your password, visit the following address:

Can anyone shed any light on what’s behind it? It says it could be benign but I’m curious as to what might have initiated it.

Somebody’s clicked on the forgotten password link for your username. If it wasn’t you, just ignore it. If it was, then you should have been expecting the e-mail.

I’d change it. Just to be on the safeside. How about you change it to something that I know?

    Like I’mpyshcometric.

It’s probably innocent as URL is correct, as said above probably the forgotten password link has been pressed. It’s been reported to IT chaps as a precaution.

If you want be sure things are fine you could change your password.

That’s the expected behaviour. If it wasn’t you who requested the reset it has been triggered by someone/thing entering your username or email.

Unless your email account is compromised, there’s nothing to worry about.
Automated password resets are needed or my job would be a nightmare.

I recommend people use strong passwords

except the username in the email isn’t the username he’s logged in as. Unless that’s an old account linked to the same email address, maybe?

    You’ve got a sharp memory TSY! 🙂

I have my email in my profile anyway so it could just be someone mucking about.

nbt – yes but geetee has two accounts.
geetee1972 – want me to delete the geetee account for you?

Oh! ban him for multiple accounts 😉

Multiple accounts are not allowed. One member – One account. Users who are found to own more than one account may have ALL accounts deleted. At the very least the extra accounts will be deleted and the user’s remaining account will be suspended for at least 48 hours.

bruneep – as they haven’t posted with the other I’ll assume it was an oversight and let them off. 😉

TBH – I don’t usually bother with strong passwords for hobby sites etc.
